The town also flourished during the Roman occupation when it was used as a resort by prominent Romans. In this area the Spa of Syllas, a famous Roman General, was built. Thermae Sylla Spa, a resort dedicated to the use of the thermal waters to treat medical disorders was founded in 1897 in the most beautiful location of the town.
