Santorini: Vineyard Tour with Wine Tasting and Local Bites

Greek Islands

Discover Santorini's unique wines on a tour of a family-run vineyard. Learn about the island's volcanic soil, taste 4-6 wines, and enjoy local bites like Santorini fava and tomato fritters.

Highlights

  • Visit two wineries: one traditional and family-run, one modern estate
  • Learn about the island's volcanic soil and the 'kouloura' technique
  • Taste 8 - 10 labels across both estates - Assyrtiko, Aidani and Mavrotragano
  • Enjoy local snacks with the tasting: cheese and breadsticks

Description

Two wineries, one island, two entirely different answers to the same soil. Choose between a semi-private tour alongside a small group of fellow travelers, or a private tour reserved exclusively for you and your party, with a guide who has the time to explain rather than recite. You begin at a traditional, family-run winery where techniques have barely changed in generations. A short walk through the vineyard shows you why: the vines are trained into low woven baskets called kouloura, coiled tight against a wind that never stops, and they survive on almost no rainfall at all. Your guide explains how volcanic ash and sea fog shape varieties like Assyrtiko, Aidani and Mavrotragano, and why vines here can live for centuries without ever being replanted. The second stop is a modern estate producing some of the island's most awarded bottles. Same volcanic soil, same grapes, a completely different philosophy in the cellar. Tasting the two back to back is the point of this tour. Across both wineries you taste 8 to 10 labels in total (4 to 5 at each stop), with context on each one rather than a tasting poured without explanation. Local snacks are served alongside the wines: cheese and breadsticks to cleanse the palate between labels. This is a tasting with accompaniments, not a meal, so come after lunch or plan dinner afterwards. Semi-private tours are for adults only, 18 and over. Private tours may include children, though they are not permitted to consume alcohol. You are collected from your accommodation and returned to it, whether you choose the semi-private or private option.
