Description
Discover the ceramic tradition of Agiasos not as a mere visitor, but as part of it.
In this small group experience, you will travel from the history of pottery to the present-day workshop of a local craftsman. You will sit at the potter's wheel yourself, work the clay with your hands, and, in the end, paint your own ceramic souvenir to take with you.
An experience that follows the ceramic art of Agiasos from the past to the present and from the hands of the master to your own.
1. Discover the history of Agiasos pottery
20–30 minutes
We start at the Visit Agiasos site, with the exhibition dedicated to the history of ceramics and pottery in the area.
Through historical photographs, archival material, and pottery objects, we get to know the people, workshops, objects, and techniques that shaped the ceramic tradition of Agiasos.
We don't just look at old objects. We discover the stories of the people who created them.
2. We walk through the cobbled streets of Agiasos
10–15 minutes
From Visit Agiasos, we begin a short walking tour to the potter's workshop.
Walking along the traditional cobblestone streets, we see Agiasos for a moment through the eyes of the people who live and create here.
The route becomes the natural connection between the history we have just learned about and the living ceramic tradition of today.
3. We meet a local craftsman in his workshop
20–25 minutes
We enter a real pottery workshop and meet the person behind the art.
The local potter shows us his space, the clay, the tools, and the basic stages of creation.
4. Your turn – at the potter's wheel
10–15 minutes of individual use per participant
Each participant sits individually at the potter's wheel, guided by the local potter.
You touch the clay, learn how to place it and center it on the wheel, and try to shape it with your own hands.
We are not interested in creating the 'perfect' object. We want you to feel the clay in your hands and experience firsthand the art you just learned about through photos and stories.
5. Paint your own ceramic piece
40–45 minutes
After the wheel, we move from clay to paint.
Each participant receives a bisque ceramic, that is, a ceramic object that has already undergone the first firing.
Choose your colors and designs.
You can be inspired by the ceramics from Agiasos that you saw in the exhibition, by the objects in the workshop, by images and motifs of Agiasos, or you can create something completely of your own.
6. Take your own piece of Agiasos with you
At the end of the experience, you take the ceramic you painted with you.
A souvenir different from those you buy in a store.
Your souvenir thus becomes part of the experience you had.
