Description
Our first stop is the impressive Temple of Demeter (Naxos) (530 BC), one of the most important restored ancient monuments on the island. Here, you can admire its elegant architecture and visit the nearby archaeological museum, where fascinating findings from the site bring Naxos’ ancient past to life. (Entrance fee: €5, cash)
Our next stop is the traditional village of Damalas, a cute village in the heart of the valley of Tragea. You will enjoy a fun demonstration at the island’s traditional pottery workshop, learning what a sfouni is and much more, and we'll visit a restored old olive press, where you'll be shown the olive oil-making process.
Then we head to the neoclassical village of Chalki, known for its elegant atmosphere and picturesque alleys. You will have time to stroll through its narrow streets, visit the traditional citron distillery museum, and visit Panagia Protothronos (10th century AD), admiring its exceptional frescoes.
Our next stop is the iconic mountain village of Apiranthos, famously known as the “marble village.” Here, marble-paved streets and unique architecture create one of the most photogenic settings on the island. You will enjoy your main lunch break (approximately 90 minutes), with time to explore, take photos, and experience the village at your own pace.
Our route continues north to the coastal village of Apollonas, a peaceful seaside escape where we'll stop for 45 min so you can relax by the sea having a drink or dessert at a waterfront café.
On the way back, our last and not least stop is the impressive Kouros of Apollonas, a colossal unfinished marble statue dating back to the 6th century BC. Resting in its original setting, it offers a powerful and unforgettable connection to the island’s ancient history.
We then return to Naxos Town (Chora), following the north coast with views of the northern Cyclades.
This tour offers you the chance to visit the featured villages, archeological sights, and Naxian landscapes in one memorable day.
